Kolkata Metro has announced suspension of its experimental late-night services on the Dumdum–Shahid Khudiram Route for regular travellers.

In an important update for local metro travellers across Kolkata, the city’s metro authorities have announced the suspension of its experimental late-night services on one of the routes. Kolkata Metro Rail Authority has cited operational issues and announced a pause on 10:40 PM trains on the Dumdum–Shahid Khudiram Route.
Set to be implemented on Wednesday, September 3, the move is based on maintenance work and operational constraints observed at the Kavi Subhash station in New Garia. Following the directive issued, the 10:40 PM metro service will remain suspended until further notice by the Kolkata Metro Rail Authority.
10:40 PM Metro Service Suspension
“On account of the suspension of the Kavi Subhash station and due to operational constraints and maintenance-related issues, it will not be possible to operate the Special Experimental Night Metro Services at 22:40 hrs. from Dumdum and Shahid Khudiram stations in Blue Line w.e.f. 03.09.2025 (Wednesday) till further notice,” the Kolkata Metro said in a statement issued.
Kolkata Metro had put the Blue Line’s Kavi Subhas or New Garia metro station under renovation, with plans set in stone to overhaul the station after identifying cracks in some of the pillars of the UP Line. According to the authorities, the renovation work will take nine months to be completed before the station is operational again.
Kolkata Metro Forced To Short-Terminate Trains
In a statement issued last month, Kolkata Metro had announced it would be operating 284 trains on the Blue Line or Dakshineswar–Sahid Khudiram route from August 25. The move would’ve raised the number of trains on board by 22 and enhanced the overall services for regular travellers on weekdays.
“To meet the demand of commuters, authorities are going to increase Metro services from August 25. Metro will run 284 (142 UP 142 DN) services on the Blue Line from Monday,” a spokesperson had said, with no changes made to the number of metro trains available on Saturdays and Sundays.
On August 26, however, Kolkata Metro had to short-terminate several train journeys from Dakshineswar in the northern part of the city to Tollygunj station down south, ensuring a higher frequency of metro trains. The move aligned with the changes and suspension of services at the Kavi Subhas station, as trains from Dakshineswar-Dumdum on the blue corridor started using Sahid Khudiram (Birji) station as the new terminal point.
