Travel between Pune and Nashik is set to get a massive upgrade with the construction of a new elevated corridor. What currently takes nearly two hours by road will soon be reduced to just 20 minutes, bringing huge relief to commuters and businesses. Work on land acquisition has already started, marking the beginning of one of the most important infrastructure projects for the Pune Metropolitan Region.

The 28-km elevated stretch will be built along National Highway 60, starting from Nashik Phata and ending at Rajgurunagar (Khed), as per Pune Pulse. Officials believe this project will not only save time but also ease heavy congestion on existing routes, especially in industrial areas like Chakan that struggle with traffic jams daily.

The new corridor will pass through key villages and towns

To make way for access ramps and alternate bypasses, surveys and land acquisition are taking place across several villages. These include Nanekarwadi, Medankarwadi, Waki Khurd, Waki Budruk, Chimbali, Kuruli, and Chakan.

Since Chakan is one of Pune’s busiest industrial hubs, authorities are also planning bypass roads through nearby areas like Kadachi Wadi and Kharabwadi to keep traffic moving smoothly.

Officials reportedly say the aim is not just faster travel between Pune and Nashik, but also to reduce pressure on smaller towns along the way, where vehicles often get stuck for long hours.

The project is part of a larger plan to decongest Pune

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been focusing on multiple road expansion projects to improve traffic flow across the city. Apart from the highway, surveys and land work are being carried out for stretches like Balewadi to Shedge Vasti, Surya Hospital to Thakar Vasti, and Nande-Man Road, Pune Pulse also states.

The ambitious Ring Road project is also moving forward in phases, with land acquisition already nearing completion in several parts. Together, these efforts are aimed at reducing bottlenecks and ensuring better regional connectivity.

Faster travel will also mean a cleaner and greener city

Experts reportedly point out that the new elevated highway could cut down on fuel consumption and vehicular emissions, since smoother traffic flow means fewer cars idling on the road.

This makes the project an important step toward eco-friendly mobility while still supporting Pune’s rapid industrial growth.

For residents, the corridor offers more than just convenience. It represents a future where urban expansion is matched by smart, sustainable infrastructure.

With travel time expected to shrink from two hours to just 20 minutes, the project is being hailed as a game-changer for both commuters and the city’s overall development.
